South Hobart
A massive new residential development with an additional 178 car movements per day will be constructed in the ‘no through lane’ of Wynyard Street in the heart of the South Hobart Village. The scale and density of the development are not appropriate for this heritage area. If the development proceeds in its current form, it will destroy local character and amenity, remove on-street parking in Wynyard and Macquarie Streets, and create more traffic chaos for the South Hobart village. Of course, a different design that doesn't impact in this way would be welcomed.
We have no option but to take a stand or lose all that makes South Hobart a special place to live. So, the South Hobart Progress Association Inc. (SHPA) has lodged an appeal with the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal (RMPAT) on behalf of the South Hobart community. The SHPA and residents have contributed funds towards the community’s appeal costs but we need another $20, 000.
Help us to fight for a fair go for everyone. We are asking for your help to raise funds to pay for legal fees. Let’s show that you can save what you love! This time it is South Hobart. Next time it maybe your street or suburb! If we help each other, we can succeed!
"Sadly for our suburb, South Hobart is to be the test case for these new State Planning Provisions."
